What eBay Star Colors Mean + How to Improve Yours - Replyco Helpdesk Software for eCommerce

From yellow to silver shooting stars, learn what all of those eBay star colors mean. Plus, find ways to improve your own star ranking as a seller.

If you’ve ever bought or sold anything on eBay, you’ve surely noticed those eBay star colors located in some sellers’ info. But what do they mean? And, if you’re an eBay seller, how can you get one of your own?

Keep reading to learn exactly what each eBay star color represents, why they matter and how to improve your star ranking as a seller.

What Do eBay Star Colors Represent?

eBay star colors represent the amount of positive feedback a seller has received. When a buyer leaves a positive review, the seller is awarded 1 point. However, a point is also subtracted for every instance of negative feedback.

Therefore, if you’re a seller who has received 12 positive reviews and 2 negative ones, you would have a feedback score of 10.

Note: Neutral feedback does not affect this score in any way.

Each Star Color: Defined

Once you begin selling on eBay, you’ll need to receive at least 10 instances of positive feedback (that aren’t canceled out by any negative reviews) to get your first star. This will come in the form of a yellow star. Then as you begin to earn more and more positive feedback, your star ranking will change.

Please note, the above chart only contains approximations (replicas) of each star color and shape. Shades and exact designs may be different on eBay, and will vary by device.

Here is a list of each eBay star color and how many points sellers need to get them:

Yellow Star: 10 to 49 points

Blue Star: 50 to 99 points

Turquoise Star: 100 to 499 points

Purple Star: 500 to 999 points

Red Star: 1,000 to 4,999 points

Green Star: 5,000 to 9,999 points

Yellow Shooting Star: 10,000 to 24,999 points

Turquoise Shooting Star: 25,000 to 49,999 points

Purple Shooting Star: 50,000 to 99,999 points

Red Shooting Star: 100,000 to 499,999 points

Green Shooting Star: 500,000 to 999,999 points

Silver Shooting Star: 1,000,000 or more points

Why Do eBay Star Colors Matter?

You may ask: do eBay star colors really matter? While it’s true that some shoppers may not be aware of the star ranking system, many are. After all, the information is readily available via a simple Google search as to what each star means.

Tips for Getting Your First Star

If you’re new to eBay and don’t have any stars yet, don’t fret. Not having a star doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t make any sales. Spend this time focusing on putting together good product descriptions that match the items you’re selling and answering any questions prospective buyers might have. Be sure to take clear pictures of your products and make your listings as detailed as possible.

When you make a sale, package the item as securely and neatly as possible. Also, it’s very important that you ship the customer’s order out quickly. And, when possible, use a tracking service so you can know exactly where the item is and when it will be or has been delivered.

Do everything you can to keep shoppers happy, and you’ll start racking up positive feedback points and get your first star in no time.

How to Improve Your eBay Star Color as a Seller

Whether you’re a new eBay seller or a seasoned one, selling quality items and providing excellent customer service are the keys to improving your eBay star color. Here are just a few tips on how to do exactly that:

  • Sell high-quality products.
  • Make sure your listings match the items you sell.
  • Ship orders out expediently, and track them when possible.
  • Be clear about any of your store’s policies in your item descriptions and / or seller info.
  • Set reasonable prices (while also making sure you’re still making a fair profit).
  • Be honest with your customers (for instance, if shipping is currently delayed, let them know ahead of time so they understand what to expect).
  • Respond to all inquiries as quickly as possible.
  • Provide friendly, helpful customer service while also answering questions accurately.

Those last two bullet points are especially crucial. Today’s shoppers want quick responses to their queries and accurate answers. In order to be as successful as possible in the current eCommerce environment, you need to reply to messages in minutes rather than days.
